Contrology Physical Therapy

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will my insurance cover my physical therapy visits?

Contrology offers in network physical therapy for the following insurance providers: Medicare, Aetna, and Neighborhood Health Plan.

In our pursuit of excellence, our clinic has transitioned to a private pay model of business and is out of network for all other insurance providers that are not listed above. With the current climate in health care, reimbursement rates are not sustainable to maintain the quality of care that we provide. Upon request, we will provide you with a paper bill which you may submit independently for out of network reimbursement, although not guaranteed depending on your insurance plan.

Benefits to our private pay model:

  1. Uninterrupted, quality time with your provider: In a traditional healthcare system, providers often juggle numerous patients in a day, leading to shorter appointment times and less personalized care. With our new private pay model, you can expect to spend up to a full hour with your provider during each appointment. This extended one-on-one time will allow for a deeper understanding of your unique needs and a more comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan.
  2. Personalized care tailored to your needs: We understand that every patient is unique, and their healthcare needs vary. With our private pay model, we can focus on delivering personalized care that takes into account your specific health goals, concerns, and preferences. This individualized approach will help us create a customized care plan that is truly centered around you.
  3. Increased accessibility and convenience: We aim to simplify the healthcare experience for you. With a private/cash pay model, you'll experience more flexibility and convenience when scheduling appointments, as well as faster access to care when you need it. We'll work closely with you to accommodate your schedule and ensure that your healthcare needs are met promptly.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Only Medicare patients need referrals. However, it is always a good idea to inquire with your insurance company about prior authorization. For most in Rhode Island, there is “Direct Access” for physical therapy services. This means most patients can seek physical therapy without a physician referral. Then if further physical therapy is necessary after a three month period, you are required to see your physician to obtain a prescription for further treatment.

Will insurance pay for Pilates or sports conditioning?

No, your insurance will not pay for Pilates or sports conditioning. If you are under the care of a PT, and Pilates or sports conditioning would benefit you as part of your rehabilitation, the PT will direct your Pilates exercise or sports conditioning exercise as part of your visit.

What should I wear for my physical therapy appointment?

Please wear loose-fitting or workout wear. Shorts, tank tops, sweats or yoga/fitness clothing are all appropriate. Please bring or wear sneakers.

How long will I be at my physical therapy visit?

Anywhere from 45-90 minutes depending on your injury.

Will physical therapy be painful?

Although rehabilitation from injury is never easy, at Contrology we make every effort to make you comfortable during your treatment.
